a sensitivity to time and place

Between April 25th and May 3rd, I have captured various pieces of furniture from my house in Princeton in natural and outdoor spaces. In sequencing and arranging them in a gallery rendering, I chose to position them in the way a guest would see them upon entering the house.

I considered landscapes that would compliment each item of furniture and almost surprise the viewer. Some images involved trekking into the woods with a chair on my back — others simply required careful placement in a field.

As a series of photographs, a sensitivity to time and place displays items that I know so well in places I never imagined seeing them. These days I feel like I am somewhere so familiar but I also know it isn’t where I should be. I see a table. I have eaten here hundreds of times but I do not know exactly which chair to choose, where to approach from, or if I should find somewhere else to sit.
